Election 2012

well today the unions have their political day ...

the incumbant governor of Wi was recalled all because he supported a bill going thru the state congress that blocked public unions from forcing the government from paying more than it could handle ... and really thats the jest of it ...

it resulted in a government lock down when the Democratic portion of the WI legislature "took off" to IL ....

the bill passed ... and I just heard that once it did the number of workers in the largest WI state union DROPPED 70%!

that meant that 70% of those in the union had been told that in order to get a job they HAD to belong to the union ... and that is the way it is most of the time across the country ...

also there are many smaller "mom & pop" businesses who could benefit from getting government contracts but can't because they don't have enough people working for them to have any union members ... and because of this, it makes them ineligible for many of these contracts ... there is also a minority clause for federal contracts with keeps them from getting federal contracts as well ... especially if they are a family business which isn't considered one of the many minority classes ...

to be clear - I am not anti-minority, and if you want to join a union go right ahead - I don't believe that a union has the right to force someone to join if they are qualified for the job, I don't believe that a small business should be excluded because of quotas, or that the government should dismiss them because they aren't unioned or meet quotas ...

oops - I slid off subject ... the recall ...

his opponent is the current mayor of Milwaukee, WI ... a city which has they highest unemployment rate in the city, has the lowest test scores in the schools (they say its for SES reasons, but that's b.s.), and is quite honestly not the safest city anywhere either ...

now I'm sure a lot of that was there before the mayor got in - I don't know if it has gotten better or worse since his term ...

I am surprised that one of the many legislators which left the state didn't run though .... I mean if they felt that strongly against it that they packed up for three weeks and booked, wouldn't you think they'd want to have their say in it all?

My in-laws are WI residents ... they seem to be of the opinion that one is as bad as the other ...

personally .... I don't have a dog in this race at the moment ... but I'd say the devil you know is better than the devil you don't ....

especially when one is the mayor of the city with the most union workers in the state ... hmmm, wonder where his campaign funds have come from??

PS.
so if you took the union dues you paied each month and put them into the bank each paycheck ... how much money would you have at the end of the year?

I'm betting that it would be more than you'd get in "strike relief" from the union ... other than that, what do you get by joining a union?
