Trump is making the rounds visiting leaders of other countries - he has talked to Putin and this weekend he talked to Kim Jong Oon (probably spelled that wrong)
He was the first US President to ever step into the DMZ between North & South Korea - remember that the 2 countries have never enjoyed "peace" since the Korean War, its more like a temporary truce which has lasted 40some years ... so crossing the border was a HUGE deal - and totally UNPLANNED!!
My understanding is that Trump was on his way there and went "I'm gonna do this" and he did.
On the Sunday talk shows the Dems presidential hopefuls had plenty to say:
Beto O'Rourke (Face the Nation):
"... despite three years of the most bizarre for policy from this president, this country is no safer when it comes to North Korea. (Clip)
... they have watched other missiles, Flonting the diplomacy that this president has attempted so far – so we've added legitimacy to Kim Jong-un."
Joaquin Castro (This Week with ...):
" ... it's worrisome that the president erratically set up a meeting without these staff workings being done – it seems like it's all for show, it's not substantive ... (clip)
... I am all for speaking with our adversaries but what's happening here is this president has raise the profile of a dictator like Kim Jong-un - and now visiting with him three times unsuccessfully because he's doing it backwards "
Tim Ryan ( CNN Sunday)
"... they talk about historic moments – this is historic, him going to North Korea is like Chamberlain going to talk to Hitler"
And is much is I hate to say it – Tim Ryan is the only one that hit the nail on the head!
This was very much like prime minister chamberlain before World War II going to speak to Hitler… They weren't at war yet… Hitler hadn't done anything daddy yet – that they knew of at that time ( we of course all know how that turned out - but at the time it was considered a really good move that Chamberlain had done) ... but I can understand where he would be making this comparison
But Trump has a way of approaching people that is unheard of in the political field – he approaches them as a businessman… And we've never had a businessman as the President of the United States in the 20th century - that I know of, I am more than likely wrong - this doesn't make his way better or worse than what has already been tried, just DIFFERENT
Do you I'm like him talking to Kim John own?
No BUT if you don't talk, then nothing will ever get done!
Neither for the good, nor for the bad
