THIS ACTUALLY MAY NOT WORK ....

The LARGEST SCHOOL DISTRICT in our state (MN) is going to try to fix an issue that they really have no control over ... for the most part

They want more minority teachers - and it's a great idea

BUT

They are limited in their efforts by who actually applies for the positions ... the state has very specific standards & degrees necessary to instruct - there's more than just a high school diploma ... and it's more specific than just a college degree - and it SHOULD be more specified as to what classes you can teach, but it's not.  Our district has nearly every teacher in one school being "math teachers" who are covering other subjects as well - although they did have a Spanish-language teacher doubling as a math teacher - that was a horror and they had so many complaints she didn't last very last no (something like 3 years).

The Anoka-Hennipen school district has a large minority student body (I was in the Minneapolis school system and my school was over 50% of color) but the teacher population is only 4% minority.

So the question becomes -- in order to get more minority teachers do they lower the standards? Or offer them more money?

I'm guessing they will push to do both - which will effect EVERYONE in the state!

I'm not against the effort - in fact I'm for it - I'm just pointing out the limitations that they may not have ever faced ... we had a parent bring it up at the daycare center - they felt that the statement of "we hire whoever is qualified and applied when there's a position open" was just an "excuse" ....
Honest people - if you want more minority eachers/instructors they need to APPLY but they MUST be QUALIFIED UNDER THE LAW!!!

While being a high school graduate is okay to Home School your kids, it's NOT good enough to teach in the school systems -- there is an actually COLLEGE degree you must earn- and those are usually sought for by young women ...

Hey there's a question - WHY ARENT THEY TRYING TO GET MORE MALE TEACHERS??
I'm just saying ... there are more in high school & and few beneath that, why??
