So the Constitution is quite clear on the separation of duties in the federal government:
⇛Legislative branch (Congress, Senate & House) deb(ates Bills, passes Laws, determines the actual Budget {specifically, the Senate controls the laws, the House of Representatives controls the Purse Strings}
⇛Executive branch (aka the President) has the Power of the Pen - that is to say he has the power to either VETO or SIGN either Bill into Law or Budget into action. And while he can make PROPOSALS as to either, he/himself cannot ... Can NOT make laws nor budgets -- EXCEPT under very Special Circumstances (such as war, natural disasters, or Congress being neither In Session or Out of Town (I.e. unreachable)
⇛Judicial branch decides, IF a case is BROUGHT before them (there has to be a law suit, first) if a Law, Amendment, or Budget matter has been properly vetted, applied, or Constitutional. They CANNOT, nor should they, apply a concept accept AS WRITTEN in the form it is presented - that could be seen as "legislating from the bench" or MAKING Law, which is UNCONSTITUTIONAL
Okay, all this being said there are CHECKS & BALANCES where each branch has a bit of power to keep the other 2 branches in "check" ... - Vetoes & lawsuits keep the congress in check, legislature and appointments keep the Courts in check, Impeachment and Overturning are SUPPOSED TO keep the President in check
If President Biden VETOs the Debt proposal that Rep. MacCarthy puts before him, the House can zSTILL pass it with a 2/3 majority ... which they do NOT have ... IF Biden does NOTHING, neither signs nor vetoes, it does not "kill" it at all ...
Think of it this way, I used to belong to a couple of mail-order clubs (CDs, Books) - they worked this way: every month they would send me a notice of what that month's selection was... If I did nothing, it would automatically come to me... The only way to stop it, was to return the card that they sent. Of our country's history
Needless to say, I got a lot of products I did not really wish.
This is however exactly the way the president not signing a bill/budget works... if he does nothing, it goes through anyways... whether he is in the nation, or overseas!
I have to say though, there was one club which had me hooked... not for the books, I hated the books with a passion... But I got six sets of these books.
This book club my husband signed me up for, love my husband with all my heart but he did not know my taste in reading... Each month they would send a set of six novels... harlequin romance! I cannot stand Harlequin romance novels!
So why did I stay with the club for six months you might ask... Because with each shipment not only did I get these six torrid books ( at least in my mind) but they also sent a free gift... A single crystal glass.
Yes you read that correctly dot dot .48 etched crystal glass... i wanna say they were water goblets or wine glasses... I was willing to pay for the books... which i wound up giving away anyways:
all because I wanted to cut crystal goblet... I had done the pricing on the goblets, and found that buying the set of six books was actually cheaper then buying the full set of goblets on my own.
Rep. MacCarthy has gone to the president and told him that he is willing to accept the current debt plan, if Biden cuts the budget to pre pandemic levels... Which actually makes sense when you think about it, since there is no longer a pandemic... Biden wants nothing to do with this. He wants to pass the debt ceiling first, and then come back to talk about the budget at a later date... I'm kind of with McCarthy on this one.
In fact, I think everyone in the United states right now can understand this...
For the majority of us, monthly bills, groceries, basic shopping goes on the credit card... We go into debt... the federal government keeps raising the interest rates... so that more and more of the monthly payments that we send in go for interest, instead of the actual products which we have purchased. This means our money means less now than it did three years ago before the pandemic hit!
The quote average card UN quote carries an APR of 24% these days... As compared to 18% before the pandemic hit. A credit card which used to charge a minimum payment oh$50 is now likely charging a minimum payment of $100... not a huge increase for a man making $400,000 a year, but an incredibly steep increase for a family that is living paycheck to paycheck!
My guess is also that many of us have had to sit down and restructure our own family budgets... That is how much income we have coming in, how much we are putting into savings if any, how much is going out to the bills, how much goes to rent, utilities, food, etcetera... And I'm also going to guess that a lot of us have had to make major cuts to our spending!
It seems to me, that if we can do it dash they can do it! There is no reason the federal government cannot take a good close look at their budget, and start cutting back! The citizens simply do not have enough money to keep lining the government's pockets!
If president Biden does not agree to do some drastic budget cuts, I'm not talking to military, i'm not talking to social security, in fact I think both of those need to be increased buy a lot! I think that the country is headed for another Great Depression... One that will be worse than the last Great Depression... Not because there aren't any goods, not because there won't be any jobs, not because we're likely to be involved in a World War ( people in the government have come out and said that we are likely to be in another World War here fairly soon) ... It will be worse because people have no idea how to cook for themselves, make their own clothing, walk to where they need to go, milk a cow, skin a deer, slaughter their own food, etcetera etcetera etcetera
