So I am watching Face the Nation (CBS) and they were decussing abortion with the Governor of Michigan - why her? I've no idea other than the fact she's a woman ... apparently that qualifies her to speak for all women ...
But they showed a poll which asked:
Since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, pregnancy in the U.S. is becoming:
52% More Dandgerous
37% Not Changing
11% More Safe
Okay ... I get the "Not Changing" part, and the "more safe" would be based on medicine getting better and more OB/GYN being available for people ... but more dangerous????
Did they not explain that the question dealt with pregnancy and NOT aborion?
I mean, I can see where people Iin this case women, since they were the only ones asked) might think getting an abortion would be more dangerous ... images of hangers & dirty back alleys have been drummed into the tory of aborthions for generations ... but not PREGNANCY.
Actually, complications during pregnancy have dropped substantially since the 1950s, even more so during the 90s... in fact he "viability" of a fetus to survive outside of the womb is down to abut 22 weeks ... that is, if a baby is born at 22 weeks gestation (just over 5 monhs) it is very likely that the child will live ... during the 1970s when Roe v Wade was determined, the viability issue was something like 32 weeks (8 months) ... of course, this is based on the current understanding of a 40 week (10 months) pregnancy - in the 70s it was thought to be only 36 weeks (9 months).
Because science/medicine has gotten better, pregnancy is actually LESS dangerous than before ... but even without these improvements ...
PEOPLE HAVE BEEN HAVING BABIES FOR CENTURIES with the majority of them being without complications!
People have babies in 3rd-world countries all the time without benefit of doctors/hospitals/OBGYNs and things go just fine.
I'm not saying I'd like to have a baby without a hospital or dr nearby, but I'm saying its been known to be done.
How stupid have people become to actually thing that pregnancy has gotten more dangerous???
